We’re not really a commercial type foundry. At least not yet. We’ve designed a handful of typefaces and are constantly creating custom type and lettering through the normal work of the studio, and this site is a showcase for those projects. Some day the fonts may be available for sale here, but for now, it’s more of a gallery. (More stuff coming soon!)
Hazen Type is brought to you by Hazen Creative, Inc., a graphic design studio in Chicago, Illinois.

Slim Jim
Typeface created completely from bent single lines.
Custom Lettering

Airwest
A custom type treatment for Chicago musician/band called Airwest. The name is taken from a defunct airline.

Zeus & Apollo
A logotype drawn for a side project by Hatchback. It eventually became the name of an album by Hatchback, instead of a separate band, so this wasn’t used..

FIN Engschrift
It’s a modified version of DIN Engschrift, with custom characters and an oblique version. Designed for posters shown in a design exhibition.

Futureness
A complicated, techy logo drawn specifically for onscreen use. Futureness is a gallery of futurist and futuristic images.

Massive
This display typeface was built from the initial 5 letters of the custom Hazen logotype. It’s got all the fatness of a ridiculous wood type grotesque, but is much cleaner and almost geometric.
We just launched this new version of the site. We’ve got more to post. Check back soon!
