Working on a custom type treatment for Chicago musician/band called Airwest. The name is taken from a defunct airline, so the letterforms have a slightly period feel, though are clean and geometric.

Shown above are a couple of initial sketches and the current working version. This has the makings of an interesting display typeface so we might build out the full font, too.

At Hazen Creative we often find ourselves wanting to use Interstate, but being turned off by it’s overly recognizable and somewhat distracting angled or truncated descenders and ascenders. For a recent print piece, we crafted a version without those features and added a single-story lowercase ”a” and a few other redrawn lowercase letters to the mix. It looks great in body copy, and may inspire a completely new sans.

Hazen Creative is working on a big print piece for Northwestern University. We’re using Memphis Extra Bold. But it needs a little tweaking, so we’re fiddling with it a bit. Could turn into something interesting.
